Discover The Best Muslim-Friendly Destinations in The World

One of the most popular questions I receive here is about the best Muslim-friendly destinations that Muslims can visit in non-Muslim countries. Millions of Muslims travel every year and they sometimes want to visit places closer to home for a weekend away for example.

So many Muslims visit Europe every year and they want to find places where they can feel comfortable and of course with as many facilities such as halal food and prayer facilities as possible.

Below I have created a list of the most popular Muslim-friendly destinations according to Muslim travelers who have visited, my own travel experiences as well as the recent report of the Global Muslim Travel Index.

What is a Muslim-Friendly Destination?

I have a full article with my opinion of the differences between Muslim Friendly and Halal Holiday travel destinations.  I refer to non-Muslim countries that welcome Muslim travellers where they can dress modestly, find halal food, have a Muslim community, mosques to pray and activities that are acceptable to Muslims. For example, exploring museums, family-friendly activities, cultural experiences and attractions.

A halal holiday destinations are predominately destinations in Muslim countries where they are closer removed from anything haram (non-permissible for Muslim travelers) such as alcohol-free options, segregated beaches, halal food, prayer facilities, removal of nudity etc. I do have a full blog post with the top Muslim countries for a halal holiday that you can read as well.

In many cases, both terms are interchangeably used for marketing purposes but I do like to separate them as for me they offer different meanings and also different experiences.

Not everyone wants to take their annual holiday in a Muslim-friendly country where they have to worry about things they find haram and the same goes for people who want to explore natural beauty for example that can be found only in specific countries.

Why You should visit non-Muslim countries

I strongly believe that Allah SWT created this world and the beauty in it for us to explore. As a Muslim convert, I have seen first-hand how important it is for cultures to interchange. Building bridges, and breaking stereotypes happens when we experience a different culture and see a different way of life, whether we agree with it or not.

Visiting non-Muslim countries for many is not an issue. Millions of Muslims live in them.  It also opens our minds to other people’s thinking and ideas. Seeing hijabis in Greece always makes me smile because I know for a fact that 13 years ago it was so scary for me to wear my scarf there. Now it is normal. But this would not have happened if more and more Muslim tourists didn’t visit my country.

I always remember this verse “O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another.” (49:13)

Every Place in the World is Muslim-friendly

Although I spent hours writing this piece on the best Muslim-friendly destinations in non-Muslim countries I am also here to tell you that every single place with a tiny exception is Muslim-friendly in my opinion. I have found Muslims in places I would never consider possible like in Peru or a tiny city in Italy but there are.

Even if there are no Muslims there it goes back to the fact we can survive without halal food or mosques in different countries if we are there for a short period but also how do we expect those facilities if there is no demand for them?

every place can be Muslim friendly destination if you have the right attitude. Muslim travel in Peru
Machu Picchu, Peru is a country that I consider Muslim-friendly destination even without many halal food options

In addition, more and more countries are recognizing the importance of providing a welcoming atmosphere for Muslim visitors. With increased awareness and understanding, it is easier than ever for Muslims to explore new cultures and enjoy their travel experiences without compromising their faith.

Accumulating memories with our family or solo and visiting the places on our bucket list is more important in some cases than halal food availability. We can experience so many vegetarian options in the local cuisine that otherwise we wouldn’t.

Islam is an easy religion and Allah SWT did make travel easy for us.

In conclusion, there are amazing places around the world that make great Muslim-friendly destinations however this list is not the end all. It is mostly one of the most popular vacation spots however depending on your reasons to travel and what you enjoy most you can tailor it based on your bucket list.
