IHG Free Nights: Make sure you know the cancellation policy

I almost had a heart attack! I had to cancel the Intercontinental Rome which I booked with my two free nights from the “Into the Nights” promotion.

What I didn’t realise is that these certificates have different terms and conditions then the hotel’s cancellation policy.

Your free nights require you to cancel 48 hours prior to arrival by 6pm local time. The hotel’s policy was 24 hours prior to arrival by 6pm local time.

I went to cancel my reservation but I received a message I might lose my two free nights if I cancel. After reading the terms and conditions I realised that it has a 48 hours cancellation policy so there was that chance.

Thankfully the lady that I chatted to online managed to cancel them without a problem and now my two free nights are safe and sound into my account. However I have to say I really panicked and if I were to lose my nights I would have gone to Rome by myself. No way I let anything free or almost free slip away! 🙂

So just a reminder, make sure you know what is your cancellation policy on those certificates because you might not be as lucky.
