August was the cheap month because nobody wanted 45 degrees. That’s gone. Prices are high in August now too. I think with the new ETA visa and the the options people book August with the assumptions that it will be cheaper.
There is no low season any more or as low as it used to be even 6 years ago. There’s medium, and there’s expensive — and school holidays, Christmas, Easter and Ramadan are the more expensive.
Which means the month matters less than the week for prices.
October’s trap is half term
Fly London to Jeddah direct on 9 October and Saudia is £678. The same flight on 24 October is £1,002. There is not much you can do for this unless you use your miles and book in advance.
Same airline. Same route. Two weeks apart.
UK schools break around 26–30 October and the airlines know it. Everything below is built on the week before.

Flying with stops is cheaper — read this first.
London drops to £279, Manchester to £443 and Toronto to around C$1,365 if you’ll take connections. But the cheapest October fares are self-transfer with 20-hour returns, and Wizz and Ryanair charge for every bag separately.
You’re going into ihram, and you’re carrying zamzam back. Price the direct flight first, then decide if the saving is still a saving.

Is October a good month for Umrah?
Yes, if you avoid the last week. UK half term falls around 26–30 October and direct flights jump by roughly £320 on the same route. Fly mid-month and October is one of the better windows left in the year.
How much does a DIY Umrah cost in October 2026?
From around £978 per person. That’s a direct flight from London with Saudia, four nights in Makkah, three in Madinah, the Haramain train and a ziyarah tour — sharing a room. On points it drops to about £442.
Is it cheaper to book Umrah yourself than a package?
Almost always. You’re paying the same airlines and staying in the same hotels, without the agency margin on top. The same trip sold as a package is £2,500+ per person. It takes an afternoon to book yourself.
When should I book Umrah flights?
Around three months ahead is the sweet spot on these routes. Booking a week before departure is the most expensive thing you can do.
Do I need a separate Umrah visa?
No. A Saudi tourist visa covers Umrah. Everything you need is in my Saudi tourist visa guide.
Is the cheap flight worth taking?
Depends on your bags and your patience. The cheapest October fares are self-transfer with 20-hour returns and no luggage included. Once you add bags for the journey out and the zamzam coming back, the gap narrows quickly.
How far are these hotels from the Haram?
Between 0.4 and 1.7 miles. The Jabal Omar hotels are walking distance. The Novotels and voco are a short taxi, which is why they’re a third of the price.
Can I do a DIY Umrah with children?
Yes, and it’s where booking yourself really pays. Children usually stay free in the room, so you’re only paying their flight — and on points, that’s just the taxes.
