I don’t mind low-cost airlines. They are a cheap way to travel between countries and can save you a ton of money. There are so many European options these days that it’s crazy. I have travelled with Easyjet and Ryanair on a number of occasions since they fly from my local airport to many European destinations.
Today I needed a flight out of Rome to a European city and I decided to book WizzAir. However after I went onto the website I realised that I have to pay for my cabin bag since it was bigger than their free measurements. Which would have cost as much as Alitalia and not the cheapest option.
I went to check Ryanair and realised that their flight had become cheaper and they don’t charge extra for larger cabin bags. It costs me only £25 per person which I consider a bargain. Yes they fly from Ciampino airport which is further away but to be honest I still need to get to either Fiumicino or Ciampino from Rome city centre so I don’t mind. Plus Ryanair gives me a few extra hours in Rome.
However what shocked me is the fact that they corrected my mistake for free!
While I was booking I mistakenly used my mother’s middle name as her surname. I only realised as soon I pressed the pay button. I know that Ryanair tries to charge you for everything and I wasn’t happy I messed up. I was thinking of just buying a new ticket rather than calling their expensive phone line and paying a change fee. But I was pleasantly surprised.
1. Ryanair has a new procedure where it gives you 24 hrs grace period to change any minor mistakes such as spellings, names etc. This is an awesome feature since I am sure people make these mistakes and they are used to being charge (something like £30) for such a change.
2. You don’t have to call their extremely expensive phone number to do this. You can just chat with one of their advisors online and they get it changed for you. I was third in line and it took less than 5 minutes to change the name. This is a feature I wish BA and others would adopt too; so much more convenient.
The day was saved and I am very happy with the new face of Ryanair. Kudos to them. I don’t mind low-cost airlines since they take me from A to B and I have to say I will use them again.
I think Ryanair still have a lot of work to do to improve their image and gain customer trust again but I can say my experience was definitely positive one.
