Photo Album of Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Muscat

Of Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Muscat (1)

I recently wrote about the beautiful country of Oman and the capital Muscat alongside a photo album of my trip. One of the things that I loved the most about Muscat is the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. I have seen the mosque feature in many publications and on various quotes, Islamic and non-Islamic, as it has a unique design. It comes on the top for me alongside the Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed mosque. I am so happy I had the chance to pray in this place. There is a nice feeling when praying in this mosque; tranquillity and serenity, the whole place is so nicely done and it makes you feel welcome straight away. The design of the mosque reminds me of the times in the past where scholars and Muslims could spend time in the yard of the mosque and educate themselves, chat and learn about the religion.

This mosque is one of the few that I have been to that gives you this opportunity. There are places with benches around the mosque where you can sit under the shade and just read or observe people. I think I spent about an hour there doing just that. You can see a great mixture of locals and tourists just spending time in the mosque. Interestingly they also have an office where you can go and learn about Islam. I did go to check it out and pick some books up and the sheik in the office did make me feel welcome and was really interested in my conversion story like most Muslims are when they meet a revert. 🙂

What they have done is that they have opened the mosque for tourists who can have a guided tour and also visit the inside of the mosque when there is no prayer. Make sure you remove your shoes before entering and leave them in the shoe racks outside the door entrance.

I had the chance to visit the mosque a couple of times and I can say it is a place that I would love to return to and I strongly recommend you to visit if you are ever in Muscat.
