Hyatt: Best Price Guarantee, How to get good deals on hotels.

Hyatt Abu DhabiMany hotels offer a Best Price Guarantee (BRG ) meaning  that if you find their hotel cheaper elsewhere they will either match the price or give you the night for free. Most of the hotel chains will try their best not to give you the promised benefit even though you know the room rate is cheaper. They come up with all sort of excuses, which sometimes can even be classed as funny. For example I had few such as the bed is double rather than king on the site, or it is a membership site and we don’t match from them. I usually don’t even try to price match because I know it will be in veil.

However one hotel chain that I really like is the Hyatt and their Best Price Guarantee programme.Though it used to be better before it is still good by many other hotel standards. They will price match certain websites that they think are not membership sites. This is tricky to define but I will mention some that I know that work. They will also give you 20% on top of the lower price.

I have price matched a fair number of hotels because most of the time Hyatt can be found cheaper on third party websites. For a Hyatt claim you will have to have a reservation. If you find the same hotel and room cheaper elsewhere they will price match and give you an extra 20% on top. I am planning to stay in the UAE for two days and still undecided between booking the Park Hyatt and Hyatt Capital Gate. My friends live near the Hyatt Capital Gate which makes it an obvious choice. And that is why I decided to search further where I found that Hyatt Capital Gate was cheaper on a third party site.

I submitted a claim yesterday for the Hyatt Capital Gate in Abu Dhabi. You can read my review of the hotel from my previous stay. I did manage to get an excellent price there for £35 per night and this was cheaper than my actual breakfast (included) which was £50.

I reserved my room at a rate of 870AED (£150) which was actually more expensive than the Park Hyatt. However after a short search I found that the Amoma.com site had the hotel for only 550AED ( £95) which is a big difference. So I decided to submit a claim and see what happens. Usually they say they will reply within 24hours which is what always  happened with my claims.

I received an email from Hyatt about 1 hour later saying that my claim was approved and my hotel reservation was adjusted to the grand total of 450AED (£78) per night.

This is half the price of what the hotel actually had advertised on their website. It will bring my cost of two nights to only £150  for a five star hotel. And because I am a Diamond member I will use one of my suite upgrades. I still haven’t decided between the Park Hyatt and the Hyatt Capital Gate but as my rates are flexible I can cancel any time. 🙂

Not bad I think for a quick 15 minutes searching the net.
